Middle Class Hoosiers will be Eligible for Medicaid

It looks like under the new health law if you have house hold income of $64,000 you will qualify for Medicaid benefits.  For Indiana and other states this would allow a lot of people the option of Medicaid. This could devastate health insurance markets over night and add a huge burden on the state in the forms of claims.  We could also see many doctor restrict the treatment of medicaid patients because of low reinbursment rates.

It is expected that 20 million additional people could qualify for Medicaid in 2014.

The people that wrote this law might have had good intentions but the consequences are going to be massive. Right now states are already struggling with how to pay for Medicaid services and now by law there is going to be a huge influx of new Medicaid recipients.
